As a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 153, all of Ibid County Electric's electrical apprentices participate in a five year work and study program before graduating as electrical journeymen. Together with NECA, the National Electrical Contractors Association, and the NJATC, the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, the apprentices of Local 153 attend classes at Ivy Tech State College working towards their Associates of Applied Science degrees. This classroom experience complements the extensive on-the-job training apprentices receive while working alongside experienced journeymen.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is the largest electrical union in the world. The IBEW represents workers' rights in all areas of the electrical industry.

The National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee develops and standardizes training to educate the members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association; insuring and providing the Electrical Construction Industry with the most highly trained and highly skilled workforce possible. The NJATC has developed uniform standards that are adopted and used nationwide to select and train thousands of qualified men and women.

National Electrical Contractors Association

The National Electrical Contractors Association is the management association for electrical contractors. NECA represents thousands of employers who guarantee their installations and perform quality work on time and on budget. NECA electrical contractors satisfy their customers by doing the job right the first time.

The Michigan Apprenticeship Pathways Program is a consortium of the Workforce Skills Development Center, Michigan State AFL-CIO Human Resources Development, Inc., International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 153, Kalamazoo Plumbers, Pipefitters & HVAC Service Local 357, Construction Laborers' Local Union 355 and Michigan Carpenters Apprenticeship Program. The program is designed to recruit, screen, train and refer to construction union apprenticeship programs and contractors, minority, women and low-income adults residing in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren Counties who have not traditionally enrolled in construction union apprenticeship programs.
